An arms race has begun in the world of office table tennis!
Since Tom Aherne and John Darling joined Kwalee, the standard of play in our lunchtime tournaments has improved dramatically as everyone strives to compete with the new boys’ skills. Before T and J joined our indie studio, David Darling was unbeaten in championship matches, but he has failed to reach the semi-final stage in the last two monthly tourneys.
Tom and John are also responsible for the “paddle arms race.” Both brought their own paddles into the office instead of using the standard-issue Kwalee hardware and John has already made another upgrade to his since arriving. We’re expecting a reaction from Tom and also from the super competitive DD. Where will it end?
James Munro and Joe have also continued to improve their game, edging out David to regularly make it to the semi-finals, though they are yet to beat Tom or John. Big improvements have also come from Junior Artist, Alexei and Programmers, Pete and Evan.
This month’s semis look familiar, with Tom going up against Joe and John taking on James M.
Will Tom win his third tournament in a row this month? We shall see!
